THE SORORITY SCOOP
The beginning of collegiate Greek Life
In 1776 the first known fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa, was founded by a student at the College of William and Mary. John Heath was rejected by two Latin secret societies while being a student at William and Mary, and because of this him and his friends decided to create the first collegiate Greek-lettered society. The first sorority did not come until 75 years after Phi Beta Kappa was founded. Alpha Delta Pi, or commonly just referred to as ADPi was founded in 1851 as a secret society that primarily focused on fellowship and scholarship for girls.
