THE SORORITY SCOOP
Common Terminology used in Greek Life
SNAP BID

This is an option that is available to chapters that do not match quota. Chapters can offer bids to PNM's whose preferences were not matched after preference round.
NATIONAL PANHELLENIC CONFERENCE

The NPC is the governing body that includes 26 national women's fraternities. They provide guidelines for members and they are the national voice on issues in sorority life. It is one of the oldest and largest women's membership organizations.

PNM -- "POTENTIAL NEW MEMBER"

A student who is taking part in the recruitment process and has not yet received a bid.

ACTIVE

A sorority member who has been initiated into lifelong fraternity or sorority membership and also participates in chapter activities.

The sibling, son or daughter, or grandson or granddaughter of a fraternity or sorority. Each chapter has their own policy regarding legacies.

GAMMA CHI

An initiated, Panhellenic sorority member who temporarily disaffiliates from her sorority for recruitment. She is trained the Summer leading up to formal recruitment to help PNM's and any question that's asked about sorority membership. Different schools call this different things.

The last day of recruitment, when potential new members receive bids to join chapters and become new members. Bid Days are hosted to help new members get to know each other and everyone in their new chapter.

BIG/LITTLE

A big is an initiated member in your sorority who becomes a mentor to you. This relationship is important because the mentor becomes someone that the new member can go to with questions.
